ABOUT THE PROGRAM
The Galt Police Department launched the “Grandma COP” Program at Vernon E. Greer Elementary School in September 2013. In 2014, they took the program to all five elementary schools. Not only do they have “Grandma COPS" but they also have "Grandpa COPS”.
The program revolves around a character shaped like a check mark known as Charlie Check. Bi-monthly, they present 25-minute safety lessons to Kindergarteners through 6th Grade students.
The Grandma/Grandpa Cop Program has received assistance with their presentations from the Galt Police Department Officers, the Fire Department, Union Pacific Railroad, and the U.S. Coast Guard.

Grandma/Grandpa COPS have also attended Back to School Nights, Open Houses, Spaghetti/Bingo Nights, Movie Nights, School Carnivals, and Fairs. They often greet children as they arrive at school.
Grandma/Grandpa COPs welcome students with a warm smile or hug while paying each child a compliment of how nice they look, how cautious they were getting out of the car or crossing the street, in order to start their day on a positive step.
Grandma/Grandpa COPS are often recognized in the community. Sometimes at a grocery store, you can hear a child call out “Grandma COP!" These COPS say it’s thrilling to see and know what an impact they have made on our beautiful children.
